Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Resynced, a ground-up remake of the 2013 fan favourite that many consider the finest entry in the long-running franchise. The game is being rebuilt for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC using the latest version of Ubisoft's Anvil engine.
More Than a Remaster
Unlike previous Assassin's Creed re-releases, Resynced is a full remake — not a resolution bump or texture pack. Every environment, character model, and animation has been rebuilt from scratch. The Caribbean open world, already stunning in its original form, now features volumetric clouds, realistic ocean simulation, and dynamic weather systems that affect both naval and on-foot gameplay.
Ubisoft has also confirmed modernised controls and quality-of-life improvements drawn from more recent entries in the series, while preserving the core gameplay loop that made the original so beloved.
Naval Combat Reimagined
The ship-to-ship combat that defined Black Flag has been significantly expanded. Players can now board enemy vessels from multiple angles, manage crew morale, and upgrade the Jackdaw with a deeper customisation system. Sea shanties, of course, return in full — with additional tracks recorded specifically for the remake.
A Story Worth Revisiting
Edward Kenway's journey from selfish privateer to committed Assassin remains one of the series' most compelling narratives. Ubisoft promises enhanced cutscenes with motion-captured performances and a reworked script that tightens pacing without altering the story's direction.
Release Window
Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Resynced is targeting a late 2026 release. A cinematic trailer is expected at Ubisoft Forward later this year, with gameplay footage to follow.
